Gold and metal
value calculator.
Contained-metal value equals gross weight × purity × fine-metal reference price, after converting the weight and price to the same unit.
The result identifies its price source and excludes stones, workmanship, dealer spreads, assay fees and taxes.

A detailed contained-metal valuation
How to use this calculator
- Choose the metal, weight unit, currency and measured gross weight.
- Enter the fineness or use a nominal gold karat preset.
- Use the source-labelled reference or supply your own per-troy-ounce price, then inspect the weight and price scenarios.
At an illustrative price of 3,110.34768 per troy ounce, the price per fine gram is 100. A ten-gram item with fineness 750 therefore has a contained-metal value of 750.
Understand what the number measures
The main result estimates fine-metal content at the selected reference price. Gross weight is converted to grams, multiplied by fineness divided by 1,000, and multiplied by the fine-metal reference per gram. Other metals in an alloy receive no separate value.
Use the charts as a sensitivity worksheet
The scenario chart changes the reference price and holds your weight and purity constant. The weight table applies the same purity and price to common gross weights. Neither table models transaction premiums or predicts a market price. The calculation source shown beside the result applies to all of these derived values.
Move from reference value to a real offer
For a sale, take the fine weight into the scrap payout calculator and include recovery, buyer deductions and fees. For a purchase, use the bullion premium calculator to compare the invoice with fine-metal reference value. Jewellery workmanship, collectible value and stones are outside this contained-metal estimate.
Questions about this calculation
Does a source reference guarantee a buyer payout?
No. The displayed reference has a source and observation date, but buyer terms and product specifications determine an actual offer.
Does changing the currency change the metal content?
No. Only the displayed valuation changes. The fine grams remain the same; site conversions use the latest available reference FX rate.
