What the price spread measures
The value is the Brent rolling-futures reference minus the WTI rolling-futures reference in USD per barrel on one aligned market date.
Brent minus WTI on dates where both rolling-futures references are stored. A positive number means Brent is higher.

The value is the Brent rolling-futures reference minus the WTI rolling-futures reference in USD per barrel on one aligned market date.
Transport constraints, regional supply, refinery demand, export economics and contract structure can affect Brent and WTI differently.
It is not a complete futures curve, executable quote or intraday high-low series. It does not interpolate a missing observation.

This page aligns stored rolling references by market date and does not interpolate gaps. Read the Brent versus WTI guide or inspect the rollover guide.
A widening positive Brent-minus-WTI spread means Brent has risen relative to WTI, WTI has fallen relative to Brent, or both. It can coincide with stronger seaborne demand, tighter Atlantic Basin supply, easier US inland supply or transport constraints, but the arithmetic alone cannot identify the cause. Check dated evidence before attaching an explanation.
A narrowing spread means the two references are moving closer together. That can reflect stronger US export economics, changing refinery demand, pipeline capacity or a contract-month effect. Compare like-for-like dates and watch for a rollover in either benchmark. This chart is most useful as a relative-price signal alongside the individual WTI and Brent histories, not as a standalone forecast.
