Platinum price and historical chart
The latest available platinum reference is $1,783.00 USD per troy ounce for 27 September 2026 at 12:10 UTC. Delay: 38 minutes ago. It is an hourly spot reference from Gold API hourly spot reference.
Platinum prices reflect demand from catalysts, jewellery and industrial applications. A refined-metal benchmark is different from the value of an unassayed scrap item.

Behind the chart.
Data methodology →This chart separates the source observation, its period and its published unit from later currency or weight conversions.
What this price represents
Platinum prices reflect demand from catalysts, jewellery and industrial applications. A refined-metal benchmark is different from the value of an unassayed scrap item.
price-chart.com stores timestamped hourly spot references separately from its daily USD-per-troy-ounce reference observations. Hourly points are indicative market references, not executable dealer quotes or exchange closes. Monthly observations are nominal USD averages from the World Bank Pink Sheet where available; palladium uses means of stored daily references. Yearly values are means of the available monthly averages, with incomplete periods labelled. Period averages describe the stated interval, not a current executable quote. Currency and weight conversions change the display, not the underlying specification.
What a physical transaction may cost
Grade, delivery location, fabrication, taxes and dealer spreads can change a real offer. Use a matching specification and period when comparing prices.

Platinum by weight.
Custom weight & purity →Common fine-metal weights
Uses the latest reference of the frequency selected above. Values exclude product premiums and fees.
| Fine weight | Reference value (USD) |
|---|---|
| 1 gram | 57.32 |
| 10 grams | 573.25 |
| 1 troy ounce | 1,783.00 |
| 100 grams | 5,732.48 |
| 1 kilogram | 57,324.78 |
Fine weight versus gross weight
The reference values assume the entire weight is the specified metal. For an alloy, multiply net metal weight by its fineness divided by 1,000 before applying a fine-metal price. Deduct stones or non-metal parts first. A plated item cannot be valued as though all its weight were the surface metal.
A troy ounce is 31.1034768 grams. An ordinary ounce is 28.349523125 grams. A metric tonne is 1,000 kilograms. Use the weight worksheet to compare units or an entire batch.
For a purchase, compare the invoice with the premium calculator. For recovered metal, review deductions in the scrap payout calculator.
A precious metal with specification-sensitive uses
Platinum references are useful for comparing broad movements, but refined metal, jewellery and used industrial components are different products. The value of a recovered component depends on how much platinum it contains and how much can be recovered. The reference on this page does not authenticate a product or establish an assay.
Industrial applications
Catalysts and industrial processing are important contexts for platinum demand. A change in one application need not represent demand for every form of the metal.
Jewellery and investment products
Jewellery alloys and bullion products differ in purity and manufacturing costs. Price comparisons should start with the fine-platinum content.
Substitution and recovery
Platinum and palladium can overlap in some applications, but substituting materials can require engineering changes. A price difference alone does not establish an immediate substitution opportunity.
Make comparisons meaningful
Start with palladium for another platinum-group reference, then gold or silver for wider precious-metal context. These comparisons describe relative history rather than interchangeable products.
In the comparison chart, each series starts at 100 on its first shared date. This compares percentage movements rather than equating the price of a tonne with the price of an ounce. For a physical transaction, also match quality, currency and delivery conditions.
Which product are you comparing?
| Product | What to check |
|---|---|
| Refined platinum | Match fine weight, delivery terms and the quoted purity. |
| Jewellery alloy | Apply its specific fineness rather than a gold karat assumption. |
| Industrial scrap | Require an assay and recovery estimate for the actual component. |
Recent yearly averages.
Download annual USD data ↓Original USD per troy ounce. These figures average the available monthly observations. They are not year-end closes or the mean of all daily prices. This archive retains the original source unit regardless of chart display settings.
| Year | Average (USD) | Monthly observations | Coverage |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 | 1,971.38 | 8 | Partial period |
| 2025 | 1,278.33 | 12 | 12 complete monthly observations |
| 2024 | 955.25 | 12 | 12 complete monthly observations |

| 2018 | 879.58 | 12 | 12 complete monthly observations |
| 2017 | 948.50 | 12 | 12 complete monthly observations |
Partial averages can change as observations are added. Do not compare an incomplete year with a full year as though the coverage were identical.
Questions about platinum prices
Is the Platinum price live or a reference?
The daily series is a price-chart.com reference observation, separate from an exchange closing price or executable intraday quote. The displayed label, source and timestamp identify the observation. Polling a source does not make its underlying publication more frequent.
What can affect the Platinum price?
Industrial applications: Catalysts and industrial processing are important contexts for platinum demand. A change in one application need not represent demand for every form of the metal. Jewellery and investment products: Jewellery alloys and bullion products differ in purity and manufacturing costs. Price comparisons should start with the fine-platinum content.
Which Platinum products need separate specifications?
Refined platinum: Match fine weight, delivery terms and the quoted purity. Jewellery alloy: Apply its specific fineness rather than a gold karat assumption. These product differences mean one headline reference cannot price every physical transaction.
What do monthly and yearly Platinum prices mean?
Monthly values retain the World Bank source averages rather than being rebuilt from a different daily feed. Yearly values average those monthly observations. The table flags incomplete coverage. A period average is different from a closing price.
How do I value a custom amount of Platinum?
Use the platinum value calculator for weight, fineness and currency, then inspect its scenario chart and weight table. A contained-metal estimate excludes unentered premiums, fees and non-metal components.
Where does platinum come from?
South Africa dominated estimated platinum mine output in 2025. Russia and Zimbabwe were the next-largest named sources, making platinum supply much more geographically concentrated than gold supply. See the platinum production map and table.
How does platinum move from mines to users?
South African operations mine, process and refine the full range of platinum-group metals from Bushveld ores. Finished PGMs serve catalytic, jewellery, electrical and industrial customers. Follow the documented platinum routes; they are explanatory relationships rather than live cargo tracking.
What is platinum used for?
Vehicle catalysts are the leading US use for platinum-group metals. Platinum also enters chemical processing, petroleum refining, jewellery, glassmaking, medical devices, electronics and investment products. The end-use section separates the cited applications.
