When a metal is quoted in US dollars, a buyer using another currency faces two moving quantities: the metal's dollar value and the value of the local currency against the dollar.
The conversion formula
Multiply the USD metal price by the number of local-currency units per USD. At a hypothetical metal price of USD 2,000 and an exchange rate of 1.5 AUD per USD, the converted reference is AUD 3,000. If the rate rises to 1.6 while the dollar metal price stays unchanged, the local reference rises to AUD 3,200.
A reference is not a bank quote
Reference FX rates are useful for consistent comparison. A card issuer, dealer or bank can apply a spread or fee. Weekend and holiday reference values may retain the most recent business-day observation. Fetching a dataset more often does not turn a daily source into an intraday source.
How price-chart.com handles currencies
Our rate worker checks for new reference rates every twelve hours during the first three calendar months after launch, then every hour. Each conversion shows the date of its FX observation. Unsupported or unavailable rates produce an explicit error rather than a guessed conversion.
Historical chart caveat
The currency selector translates all visible historical metal prices at the latest available reference FX rate. That is useful for comparing scale in a familiar currency. It does not reconstruct what you would have paid in that currency at each past date. Analysing historical local-currency returns requires date-matched historical FX observations, which the historical local-currency price tool applies month by month.
